Wage: $ 21.00 - $28.00/hour

Position Summary:

The Parent Educator is responsible for the implementation of family centered, home bases services using a team model to include assessment, planning, referrals, and education to familys identified and referred by community partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide family-centered, home-based services
  • Conduct the enrollment, service planning and implementation of the Parents as Teachers Curriculum focusing on strengths and areas of concern.
  • Conduct home-visits, addressing specific goals in the family service plan; conduct developmental screenings; make referrals and establish connections to other community resources identified in the service plan; facilitate educational groups.
  • Document services provided to the family and submit required paperwork in a timely well-organized fashion.
  • Participate in PAT staff meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Follow agency policies regarding confidentiality and other consumer rights
  • Maintain flexible hours and schedule visits according to families needs
  • Represent the agency in a professional manner within the community
  • Work well with other agencies personnel
  • Requires working flexible hours, including some evenings a month
  • Requires extensive travel in the community and working in clients homes
  • Requires ability to tolerate exposure to tobacco smoke, domestic animals, household pests, and other conditions common to a variety of home environments
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Requirements:

The following requirements are those that are normally required for performance of this position. Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking, hearing and adequate vision on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 80% of the time.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Preferred
  • Associates Degree, Required

Experience

  • 2 years experience working with parents and young children
  • 5 years experience working with parents and young children with Associates Degree or equivalent

Special Skills

  • Knowledge of child development, a range of child rearing practices and issues
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of screening materials
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess good data management skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Required
  • Ability to provide culturally relevant services

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Valid Washington State drivers license and minimum required liability insurance

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required
