Position Summary
Provides a variety of services associated with orthopedic casting procedures to patients. Aids in patient care by performing the application and removal of casts, splints, and braces. Ensures proper healing of patient injuries through education of proper casting care and instruction on using crutches, walkers, and other aides. Responsible for removal of sutures and staples, re-bandaging of wounds, and/or application of steri-strips.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures that adequate supplies of plaster, padding, linen, bandages, splints and related materials are available in each procedure room.
Ensures that all equipment, including cast saws, cast tables, and assorted hardware (pin cutters, drills, screwdrivers, etc.) are ready and in proper working condition.
Ensures that pertinent clinic notes and x-rays are available for each patient. Escorts patient to exam rooms and prepares patient for exam/treatment. Orients patients, enters ancillary orders and directs patients to studies.
Instructs patients and families in use and care of immobilizing devices. Reinforces routine instructions given to patients by other healthcare providers. Distributes patient education materials.
Observes, collects and documents patient information obtained while providing care. Reports significant changes or pertinent information to licensed personnel.
Provides care/treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to measurement of vital signs, height and weight. Performs skin preps/scrubs and simple wound care and assists with clinic-based procedures. Creates, applies, and removes immobilizing devices such as splints, wet plaster and fiberglass casts.
Removes sutures as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or Associate's or technical Surgical Technologist degree required.
Experience: Previous casting experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Medical Assistant - Certified licensure or Washington State (DOH) Surgical Technologist licensure required. American required. American Heart Association BLS required. Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) required within one year of hire.

As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $30.71 - $44.19 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
